Remote talk

In her talk Outi Laiti addresses, through her journey, the practice-centered research of developing Sámi game developers. While on that journey, she has introduced e.g. ethnoprogramming, supporting Indigenous youth to achieve programming skills in basic education, and co-organized Sami Game Jam, the rapid-paced game developing event. Today the number of sovereign digital games employing Sámi culture is slowly rising and expanding to new gaming platforms, from serious games in education to the Sámi metaverse in Minecraft. She tells a story of Sámi empowerment through collaborative game design and people who, through multiple roles, carry on the game development tradition of the Sámi by old ways of knowing and new ways of playing.
